The Inner Compass Therapist

Helping You Find Your Inner Compass

About Me

I am a mother, wife, daughter, as well as a social worker/psychotherapist.  I identify as a cis-female, childhood immigrant to Canada, first generation Singaporean, and multi generation Indian.

As a cis-female Punjabi individual living in Canada, I have first hand experience learning how to believe in myself while navigating two competing worlds.

I used to see myself as an outsider and did not see myself as good enough.  Through my own therapy and journey, I have realized that this had taught me to not trust myself.  Now, my daily practice is based on loving myself and recognizing my worth.
I am always amazed by my clients and what they accomplish.   My passion is being a guide in a person's journey of growth and self-discovery.  That journey may involve learning to listen and value what is true to you, developing self-acceptance to be who you are today and growing compassion for yourself and for others. Together, we uncover the drive to be perfect and no longer hide our feelings of shame, judgment, criticism and blame.

Approach to Psychotherapy

I provide a holistic and intergrative approach to therapy that draws on a multiple of therapeutic training and approaches to guide the counselling process.  In my intuitive approach, you can expect that I will be a trusted companion on your journey towards greater authenticity, self discovery and self-compassion.

I provide a holistic and integrative approach to therapy.  My method is to access different tools in my tool box so that a safe and healing environment can be provided to nourish and honor various parts of the self.

My tools include various theories (such as attachment, humanistic and experiential theories) and evidence-based approaches, including strengths-based, cognitive-behavioural therapy, solutions-focused, mindfulness, among others.

By working together to find the right approach for you, we will utilize these tools, access your own unique strengths and resources, and reach your counselling goals.  In this way, you will start to develop inner peace and acceptance of all different aspects of you, feel grounded within, and feel more connected to yourself and others.

I discovered Brene Brown by accident sometime in 2015.  For several years, I was feeling doubtful and felt pulled between my responsibilities and what I wanted.  The most challenging part was that I did not know what I wanted in the first place.  I googled "not good enough", and Brene Brown's TedTalk came up.  She talked about shame and vulnerability in a way I had not heard before, and it felt like she was talking about me.  I also learned that I was not the only one that felt this way, and I wanted to help build awareness for others.

In 2016, I made a brave move and attended her facilitator training.  I received my certification in 2017.  Since then, I have been providing workshops and sharing her curriculum in my work with clients.

Today, when I am struggling to find myself, I often watch Brene Brown's TedTalk or read her books (my favorite being The Gifts of Imperfection).

Professional Experience

I am a Registered Social Worker (RSW).   I received my Masters of Social Work degree from Wilfrid Laurier University.

I worked with a community counselling agency for thirteen years, providing counselling services to individuals, couples and families, as well as supervising interns during their placement.  As part of my role, I worked at schools for the York Region District School Board and the Simcoe Muskoka District School Board, not only providing individual and group counselling to students and their families, but also supporting teachers and guidance staff.  I have facilitated a variety of workshops, on topics such as parenting, emotional regulation, bullying, depression, anxiety, and suicide prevention, to students, parents and staff at various schools within these school boards, as well as to Montessori schools within the community.

I am a member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) and the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW).
