The Inner Compass Therapist

Helping You Find Your Inner Compass

Work with Me

How can a Social Worker help?

Social Workers help people resolve problems that affect their day to day lives.  People see Social Workers when they are going through a difficult period in their personal, family, and/or work life.

What is the first step to starting therapy?

Typically, a complimentary telephone consultation will be conducted with you to understand your needs for counselling.
After your first telephone conversation, we will set up an in person session, where you will discuss your situation and issues that brought you to counselling, and also define your goals.
Then, how often and for how many sessions you meet depends on you.  Together, we can determine a schedule that is based on your availability, goals, and other commitments.

Will psychotherapy help me?

Psychotherapy is a safe space for you to uncover, explore your emotions, as well as to gain insight.   Initially, it may not be easy to uncover the emotions, and may bring up feelings of discomfort.  I will provide you with support and we will discuss strategies to help you care for yourself in between sessions.

During your sessions, you will begin to understand yourself by uncovering triggers and ineffective patterns of beliefs, thoughts, feelings and relationship dynamics; developing clarity, awareness and compassionate understanding; as well as creating new, healthy patterns that will connect you to your true self, and feel more present and authentic with others.

Although it is initially uncomfortable, psychotherapy can be transformative and healing.  The many benefits include:
  • Identify and understand the source of your difficulty
  • Become aware of your strengths
  • Find your voice
  • Discover what gives you fulfillment
  • Feel grounded and present
  • Develop coping skills and effective solutions to your problem or situation
  • Make positive changes in your life

Are your services confidential?

I respects the privacy of my clients.  My professional integrity and ethics require me to keep everything you discuss confidential.   I will not release information to a third party without your written consent.
However, there are a few exceptions:
  1. If you are under 16, or someone you know is under 16, and are being neglected or abused, physically, emotionally and/or sexually
  2. If you tell me you plan to hurt yourself or someone else
  3. If court is requesting information about your sessions
Conditions of confidentiality will be shared in your first session.

How do we meet for sessions?

I offer sessions online/virtually, by telephone or by video.
Virtual counselling may be an option for you if:
  • You are tired of fighting through traffic to get to a therapist's office
  • You want to have flexibility in when to meet with your therapist, amidst juggling with other priorities and demands
  • You are more comfortable in the privacy of your own home
  • You travel for business or pleasure, and want to connect to your therapist while you are away
  • You want to pay less for other associated costs, such as parking and child care

Virtual counselling works in a similar way to the traditional, face-to-face counselling sessions.  For video sessions, we communicate on a PHIPAA & HIPAA friendly messenger platform in a similar way to Zoom or Skype.  We can address most issues through virtual sessions, as effectively as face-to-face counselling.

What is the cost?

The full fee for a 50-minute in-person session, or a 50-minute video counselling session is $160.  A receipt will be provided. HST is exempted for all services.

Are services covered by insurance?

Counselling and psychotherapy services provided by a Registered Social Worker and/or Masters of Social Work may be covered by your insurance plan or your employee benefits.  Please contact your insurance company to confirm.
If you do not have coverage, you may claim these receipts as medical expenses when you file your taxes.
